Elda Gertrude March

Elda Gertrude March was born in Wirral, Queens Co. NB on April 28, 1911 ; she was the daughter of the late Silas and Mary Jane (Hoyt) Kirkpatrick and the wife of the late Harvie March who passed away in 1972.

Elda graduated from Provincial Normal School and taught in New Brunswick schools and worked on their farm.   She was a member of St. John's United Church , where she was a member of the Church Choir, taught Sunday school, was an Elder and Member of the Session. Elda was a life member of the UCW and a member of the Women's PC Association.  

Elda held many offices in the St. John’s United Church, including: Mission Band Leader for 15 years, Treasurer for 17 years, Sunday School Teacher, Presbyterian Representative and Conference Delegate.

 She was a choir member for 26 years, served on the Board of Stewarts for 3 years, an auditor for Saint John and Central treasurers, an Elder of the Sussex St. John’s United Church and an honorary Elder for the Saint John division.

Elda was the President of the UCW for 14 years and Vice President for 60 years, she was the treasurer of the General UCW and served on several committees in the church. She was always very proud of her many accomplishments.

 
 
 

Elda was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ella Kirkpatrick of Hoyt, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Elda Gertrude March of Belleisle Creek Manor formerly of Sussex Corner passed away at her residence on Wednesday October 31, 2007 at the age of 96.

Elda was predeceased by four brothers: Lester, Hazen, Percy and Willard and by three sisters: Annie, Florence and Gladys .

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex , (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.

A Celebration of Elda’s life will be held from St. John's United Church, Sussex Corner Friday November 2, 2007 at 11:00am with Rev. Gene Fisher officiating. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery .
