Mary Margaret MacNeill 

Mary Margaret MacNeill was born in Sussex on September 17, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Anderson) Mullin and the wife of the late William MacNeill who passed away in 1995. 

Mary is survived by three daughters: Lynne Brown and her husband Laurie of Brentwood Bay, BC, Dawn Dunfield and her husband Leonard of Portagevale and Chris Bell and her husband Wayne of Penobsquis; a special daughter: Marilyn Michaud and her husband Steve of Smith Creek; three sons: Reg of Fox Hill, Neil and his wife Pam of Manitoba Rd and Charles and his wife Christiane of Montreal, Quebec; 14 grandchildren: Robyn, Jeremy, Zachary, Evan, Keri-Lee, Nicholas, Jon, Brandon, Joel, Marc, Scott, Gabriel, Jeanne and William; her daughter-in-law, Tanya MacNeill of Sussex; her brother Wayne Miller and his wife Esther of O'Leary, PEI; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 
 
 

Mrs. Mary MacNeill of Apohaqui, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on October 29, 2007 at the age of 86.

Mary was predeceased by a son Jon in 1980, her sister: Faith Couglan and two brothers: George Mullin and Roland Mullin.

In September of 1946, she married the love of her life, William MacNeill. They resided in Apohaqui where they raised their seven children. Mary and Bill did everything in their power to provide a loving and supportive home where the emphasis was always on the importance of family and sticking  together.

Mary was the queen of hospitality and loved having a house full of family and friends. She loved nothing better than the sound of laughter around the kitchen table, Her house was always open and she would make sure that  you never left without a full stomach. She was renowned for her butter tarts and chocolate balls. All were welcomed including pets of all kinds. It didn’t matter who you were immediately made to feel like part of the family.

Mary was very active in the community, serving on the Recreational Council and the Apohaqui Seniors’ Club. She did everything from cooking and serving at community suppers to entertaining with Ruby and Fran in comedy skits.

She loved to travel and was an escort  for many years on Freedom Tours, traveling from Newfoundland to Florida. She also enjoyed her trip to Europe and many visits with Lynne and Laurie in BC.

Mary was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor which she passed on to her children and was appreciated by all who came in contact with her.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from  St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 10:00 am with Father Peter Bagley officiating.  

The interment will take place at Wards Creek Cemetery.
