Deborah Leaver

Debbie Leaver was born in Halifax on September 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Albert and Nellie (Ireland) Smith and was the wife of the late "Sam" Sanford H. Leaver who passed away in1986.   

Debbie was a Canada Service Veteran and served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps overseas during WWII in England, Holland, Germany and France. She was a Commissionaire at Saint John Nurses' Residence and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex branch #20 Ladies Auxiliary.  Throughout her life she enjoyed making crafts, sewing, reading, loving her family and making sure her pets were well cared for. She was cherished by her family and will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Deborah "Debbie" Anne Leaver of Heatherway Blvd. Saint John passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 3, 2008 at the age of 84.

She was a generous lady and caring, compassionate mother and is survived by her daughter, Trisha Leaver (Carl) of Riverview, two sons: John Leaver (Sharon) of Brantford, ON and Carter Leaver of Saint John, two grandchildren: Heather and Duane Leaver of Saint John, NB, as well as several nieces and nephews. Debbie was predeceased by her brothers: Albert, George, Charlie, Harry and Bill and by her sister: Muriel (Nellie) Loner.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). 

A Celebration of Debbie’s will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11:00 am with Fr. Arnie Hachey officiating. 

There will be a time of fellowship with family following the service. The interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park.  As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Kidney Foundation or to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
