Muriel Virtue

Mrs. Muriel Doreen Virtue was born in Saint John on June 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Otty and Florence Pearl (Pace) Lewis and the wife of the late Douglas Murray Virtue who passed away in 1994. 

Muriel and Doug were married in 1947. She was a former employee of the Fairway Hotel and Restaurant and worked making pickles at McCready's Plant. She was a member of the Salvation Army where she was a former Cradle Role Sergeant; she also donated her time to the daycare and the League of Mercy. She was a member of the Penobsquis Seniors. Muriel enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking and was very involved in her church, her family and her community.

Muriel is survived by two daughters: Debbie Snider and her husband Willis of Smith Creek and Donna Dunfield and her husband Kevin of Cornhill; six sons: Ray and his wife Phyllis of Plumweseep, Dave and his wife Wendy of Richmond, Ontario, Bernard and his wife Ida of Norton, Leonard and his wife Katie of Mesa, Arizona, Wayne and his wife Joyce of Wards Creek and Kevin and his wife Wendy of Sussex; five sisters: Betty Hart and her husband Phil of Miramichi, Violet Lewis of Midland, Leila Sabean of Hamilton, ON.  Ruth Nagle of Hynes Corner and Eva Quigley and her husband Charles of Kingston Peninsula; two brothers: Gordon  and George both of Saint John; 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren: Dawn Smith and her children: Drew and Connor and their father, Jeff Smith, Christa Proctor and her husband Bev and their children: Selena and Maria, Shane Virtue and his wife Carrie and their children: Alexis, Carley and Olivia, Shondra Virtue and Robin and their children: Shane, Aidan, Jessie and Courtney, Melissa Marchbank and her husband Fred and their children: Taylor and Jonathan, Melanie Prosser and her husband Michael and their children: Courtney and Michaela, Doug Virtue and Michelle Wheeler and their children: Brian and Brianna, Hayden and Sarah , Andrew and Lucas Virtue and their mother, Nancy, Tiffany Knapp, Katelyn Fyffe, Diana Adair and her husband Scot and their children: Georgia and Bronwyn, Gordon Fyffe, Aaron and Scott Snider, Robert Gray and his wife Sue and their children: Amber and Tiffany, Kim Pearson and her husband Mark and their children: Stephanie and Markus, Jessica Virtue, Karla and Kelly Dunfield; her brother-in-law, Bennie and his wife Donna of Penobsquis; as well as several nieces and nephews.   

Muriel was predeceased by her sister, Hazel and two brothers: Freeman and Clarence.

Mrs. Muriel Doreen Virtue of  Plumweseep, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on April 22, 2008 at the age of 78.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm.

A Celebration of Muriel’s life will be held from the Salvation Army Community Church on Friday, April 25, 2008 at  2:00 pm.  The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.

There will be a time of fellowship with the family in the Church Hall following the committal service.
