Shirley Eileen Anthony
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Eileen
Anthony of Waterford, NB, on August 15, 2005 at the Sussex Health
Centre Palliative Care Unit at the age of 81. Born in Saint John, NB
on April 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva
(Barton) Allison.
Growing up in Saint John, she was a member of Central Baptist Church and in her later years she attended St. John's United Church in Sussex Corner. Before residing in Waterford she lived in Quispamsis, later moving to Saint John where she married her second husband Russell Wheaton who passed away in 1990.
In 1992 she married her present husband Lloyd Anthony and moved to Waterford. They enjoyed traveling and trailering to St. Martins in the summer with their many friends and their dog “Missy”. The essence of Shirley was her love and passion for her family. She was a former member of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, she enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by Lloyd, her beloved husband of 13 years, Cherished mother of Gail (Mackin) MacBean and her husband Gary of Fredericton, loving grandmother of Tracy Fraser and her husband Shane, Craig MacBean and Chandra Parrott. Gram will also be lovingly remembered by her great grandchildren; Garrison and Alexa Fraser as “Nana Socks”. two step-daughters; Lynne Anderson and her husband Jon of Louisiana and Poley Mountain, Leslie Anthony and Brian Scoffield of Waterford, two step-grandchildren; Nicole Barnett and her husband Chris Gibbs of Toronto, Adam Barnett of Wolfville, NS, two sisters; Joan Tonge of Quispamsis, Barbara Williams and her husband Gordon of Hampton, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was predeceased by her by second husband Russell Wheaton, by an infant sister, Alberta Jean, her brother-in-law, Bob Tonge and by her sister-in-law, Frances MacGowan,
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), although there is no visitation at the funeral home, A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be from St. John's United Church on Friday August 19th 2005 at 11:00am with Rev. Eugene Fisher officiating.
There will be visitation with the family at Lloyd's home following the Funeral Service.
There will be a graveside at Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John at 2:30pm.
As an expression of sympathy donations made to Alzheimers Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
