Mary “Kathleen” Robinson
Miss Mary “Kathleen” Robinson, of Long Creek, passed away
at Sussex Health Centre on April 21, 2003. She was born in Coles
Island, NB on June 22, 1925, the daughter of the late James Allen and
Margaret Jane (Clements) Robinson.
Kathleen is survived by her brother Vernon Robinson and his wife Jo-Ann of Long Creek and her sister Phyllis McShane of Picadilly, her brother-in-law Roger Erman of Goshen, as well as several nieces and nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by her sister Agnes Erman who passed away in1995.
Kate kept house for Leo Voutour for 19 years. There were times she would go to the woods with Leo, helping to clear brush out of the way, load blocks onto the truck and even to help limb some trees. There were times when Kate would drive the bulldozer to help Leo clear a road. When Leo passed away, Kate worked as a cook for a few years. When her mother became ill, she gave up her job to look after her. Kate loved animals. She was always taking in strays and caring for them. If a mama cat wouldn't look after her young, Kate would bottle feed it until it was old enough to eat on it's own. One time Kate found a hen in the ditch. It has fallen off a truck. She brought it in and before long, it too was a pet. Kate always made sure the birds were fed. Putting out seeds, bread and other treats for them. Kate fed the squirrels, raccoons and whatever wild animal passed through. Yes, she even fed a couple of bears and a cougar that passed through one year. Kate taught herself to read, to write and to do math. She was also a self-taught crocheted. She made many beautiful items from thread, string or yarn. Some she sold, but most she just gave away. Kate loved to laugh and found laughter everywhere. She loved to job and goof around. She always had a smile, warm heart and kindness for everyone. She gave freely of herself and asked for nothing in return.
